20th European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) ‘Science and Society Conference: Science as Storytelling: From Facts to Fictions‘ will be held on 24 – 25 October 2019 in Heidelberg, Germany. 

Science and Society Conference: Science as Storytelling: From Facts to Fictions

The meeting will explore the role of narrative in the communication of science. Session topics include:

  • The place of narrative in science
  • How we do science, publish science and communicate science
  • Science as a source of literary narratives
  • Science as a source of narratives in entertainment media.

The latest SAPEA report  Making sense of science for policy will be disseminated at the conference.

Founded in 1974, EMBL is Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences, an intergovernmental organisation with more than 80 independent research groups covering the spectrum of molecular biology. It operates across six sites: Heidelberg, Barcelona, Hamburg, Grenoble, Rome and EMBL-EBI Hinxton.

Evidence-informed policy: a Norwegian perspective

A seminar assessing the findings of the SAPEA report ‘Making sense of science for policy’ was hosted by Academia Europaea Bergen Hub in collaboration with the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The seminar, held on 4 November in Oslo, reflected on what insights of the report might be applied to the science advice process in Norway. The event was designed around two linked sessions, one focused on the European dimension of evidence-informed policy and the second examining Norwegian policymaking.
