ALLEA to hold workshop on ethical aspects of Open Access

The ALLEA (All European Academies) Permanent Working Group on Science and Ethics will present a one-day workshop on Ethical Aspects of Open Access on 1 February 2018 at the Academy Palace in Brussels, Belgium, hosted by the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts.

The workshop will be held back-to-back with an Open Data in Science Workshop organized by the European Members of ICSU on 31 January also in Brussels and will complement some of the issues raised during that workshop. As both research funding organisations as well as the European Commission have recently put a greater emphasis on open access publishing, this workshop will illustrate some of the ethical problems that derive from open access developments. Topics covered in the workshop will range from predatory journals and fake editors to questions of transparency, as well as assessments of research performance in open access.
